mainechildrensalliance • October 21, 2019
This is one in a series of profiles on the 2019 Giraffe Award winners. Each week leading up to the Champions for Children Luncheon on November 7th, we will feature a profile of a 2019 Giraffe Award Winner and showcase how they “stick out their neck” for Maine children, youth and families. This week, we are pleased to highlight the juvenile justice work of Adelaide Lyall, with the Maine Youth Court

A young woman in overalls is smiling in front of a tree. Adelaide Lyall was trained as a restorative justice facilitator in 2016 and has served as either a facilitator or advocate in more cases than any of the Maine Youth Court's volunteers in their history. Her passion has been t o create a more trauma-informed, therapeutic and supportive approach to youth misbehavior. She has assumed many leadership roles over the years: preparing and presenting in the community, assisting staff in recruiting and training new volunteers, joining the board in 2017 and finally, becoming the board chair in 2018.

This past summer she interned  with the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP), and is currently a freshman at Penn State, where she plans to double major in Political Science and International Relations.

Adelaide Lyall will be awarded the 2019 Youth Award in recognition of her contribution to improving the juvenile justice system in Maine, on November 7th at our Champions for Children celebration.

Don’t forget to join us for the 2019 Champions for Children and 25th Anniversary Celebration ! And keep an eye out for upcoming profiles featuring the rest of our 2019 Giraffe Award winners.
